Meet Taylor

My name is Taylor Small and I ask for your continued support to be Winooski’s Representative for the Chittenden 21 district.

I currently serve as the Education Program Manager at Pride Center of Vermont, a statewide non-profit organization serving the needs of LGBTQ+ Vermonters. In my role, I work closely with healthcare and human service providers statewide to educate and provide assistance in the prevention of health disparities specific to the LGBTQ+ community. One of my greatest passions is increasing access to care for marginalized community members through educational outreach and evidence-based interventions. A professional highlight of mine is conducting training sessions for thousands of providers to increase cultural competency statewide.

Prior to my role at Pride Center of Vermont, I worked in mental health services at Howard Center and Northwestern Counseling and Support Services and supported homeless and runaway youth at Spectrum Youth and Family Services. I have also served on the Board of Directors for Outright Vermont, a statewide non-profit that works to build safe, healthy, and supportive environments for LGBTQ+ youth and their families.

My family emigrated from Canada to the United States in the 1960s and chose Lamoille County as their home. I graduated from Colchester High School and Burlington Technical Center in 2012, followed by the University of Vermont in 2016 with a B.S. in Human Development & Family Studies and a minor in Sexuality & Gender Identity Studies.

My activism has taken many shapes and forms over the years, but the most notable is my drag persona, Nikki Champagne. Alongside my business partner, Emoji Nightmare, I have had the opportunity to provide Drag Queen Story Hours across the state promoting local libraries and youth literacy, host fundraisers to help support Vermont’s non-profit organizations, and create safer spaces for LGBTQ+ community members to come together. I believe that through visibility, education, and love, we can create a more compassionate state.

I live in the east end of the city with my partner, Carsen, and our dogs, Theo and Charlie. I look forward to getting to meet more residents of this great place during this campaign. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me to start a conversation.
